The Valley of Flowers and Hemkund Sahib trek
The trek starts from Govindghat, near Joshimath, and continues on foot to Ghangaria, the base for both the Valley of Flowers and Hemkund Sahib. It is a moderate trek suitable for most reasonably fit travellers, with ponies available on the Hemkund route. Allow six to seven days from Rishikesh or Haridwar, including travel.
How many days do you need in Uttarakhand?
Four to five days suits Rishikesh with Mussoorie, or Nainital. Six to seven days is needed for the Valley of Flowers and Hemkund Sahib. The full Char Dham Yatra usually takes ten to twelve days by road.

Is the Valley of Flowers trek difficult?
It is a moderate trek. Most reasonably fit people complete it comfortably at a steady pace. The climb to Hemkund Sahib is steeper, and ponies are available if needed.
Do I need a permit for the Valley of Flowers?
Yes. An entry permit is issued at the forest checkpost near Ghangaria for the national park. Carry a government photo ID. Hemkund Sahib pilgrims are also registered at the start of the route.
How do I reach Uttarakhand?
Dehradun's Jolly Grant Airport and the railway stations at Haridwar, Dehradun and Kathgodam are the main entry points, with road connections onward to Rishikesh, the hill stations and the trek bases.
